EFP - Thermal Packaging Engineer

Job Summary
Lead thermal packaging design, testing, and product development for cold chain packaging systems in a laboratory setting. Develop and execute thermal test plans for shippers (EPS/EPP/PUR/VIP, fiber insulation, refrigerants, dry ice), conduct pack-outs, maintain BOMs and test records, analyze results, and translate findings into design improvements focused on hold time, risk reduction, cost optimization, and sustainability. Drive structured product development activities (requirements, feasibility, risk assessment, design iterations, verification/validation, release) in collaboration with Product Management, Sales, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain. Support manufacturing transfer, develop engineering guidelines for insulation and thermal performance, engage with customers through test proposals and performance recommendations, and maintain professional technical reports and lab practices. Travel up to 20% for training, customer visits, and validation activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or a closely related engineering field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in packaging engineering, thermal packaging, cold chain packaging, product development, or package performance testing
- Experience with laboratory instrumentation (thermocouples, data loggers, thermal chambers) and basic statistical analysis
- Strong technical writing skills for customer-ready reports and internal documentation
- Experience with ISTA-style thermal qualification, cold chain materials, CAD interpretation, or manufacturing transfer preferred
