Job Summary
Thermal Packaging Engineer leads and executes cold chain packaging design, testing, and product development activities from the La Vergne Testing and Development Laboratory. Responsibilities include designing and executing thermal test plans for shippers (EPS, EPP, PUR, VIP-based), conducting pack-outs, maintaining build documentation, analyzing results for improvements, and supporting cross-functional product development, manufacturing transfer, and launch readiness. The role requires collaboration with Product Management, Sales, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain, strong technical writing for reports, and adherence to safety and quality standards; travel up to 20% is expected.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or closely related engineering field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in packaging engineering, thermal packaging, cold chain packaging, product development, or package performance testing
- Experience with laboratory instrumentation (thermocouples, data loggers, thermal chambers) and basic statistical analysis/data visualization
- Demonstrated product development experience from requirements through launch, including prototypes, testing cycles, design revisions, and release documentation
- Working knowledge of heat transfer principles, thermal resistance, convection pathways, and refrigerant conditioning
