Job Summary
The Parent Advocate provides critical support to parents of children in foster care, helping them navigate the foster care system and encouraging familial reunification. This role involves building supportive relationships with parents, preparing them for Family Team Conferences, collaborating with service providers, and documenting family interactions. The advocate will also facilitate parenting skills development, assist with resource navigation, support families through various processes, and engage in ongoing training and team meetings. Candidates should have firsthand experience with the child welfare system, strong communication skills, and basic computer literacy.
Required Qualifications
- Previous life experience being impacted by the child welfare system as a parent including having had a child placed in foster care or having had a court-ordered supervision case.
- High School Diploma
- Approved background clearances and fingerprinting are required.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Basic computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office.
Desired Qualifications
- Associates degree preferred
- Bilingual abilities are strongly encouraged
- Knowledge of local welfare services a plus
