Job Summary
Coordinate and oversee the training of pharmacy technician apprentices, including scheduling, guiding duties, and providing hands-on instruction in medication preparation, dispensing, and distribution. Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum aligned with industry standards, delivering classroom instruction, laboratory demonstrations, and practical training. Assess student performance through exams, projects, and clinical rotations while serving as a key resource for troubleshooting pharmacy automation systems. Build relationships with pharmacy professionals to prepare students for certification exams.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic background in chemistry, science, and math
- Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician by the Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy
- Must possess a valid Pharmacy Technician Registration from the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy upon the date of hire as Pharmacy Technician
- Minimum of six (6) months of experience as a Technician at Singing River Health System Pharmacy
- Must be able to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue
- Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities
- Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone
- Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels
- Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations
- Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations
- Must have math aptitude
- Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette
- Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word
- Must be able to: effectively delegate responsibilities
- Must be able to: develop and monitor employee schedules
- Must be able to: coach and train for effective employee development
- Must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends
Desired Qualifications
- Completion of a pharmacy technician program or on-the-job training in a retail or hospital pharmacy
- Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board
