Educator - Inpatient Coding Specialist - Adjunct

Job Summary
Develop and coordinate educational programs for non-clinical training areas, including curriculum delivery, student instruction, and program administration for the Inpatient Coding Apprentice program. Facilitate staff development, orientation, and evaluation across all personnel levels while serving as a resource on new policies, procedures, and equipment. Contribute to the High School Allied Health Career Technical Education program and community engagement initiatives while adhering to DNV/CMS accreditation standards and CDC Guidelines for Infection Control. Adjust working hours and availability as needed to meet educational needs, including evenings, nights, and weekends, while traveling throughout the SRHS service area to provide division-level education. Requires current AHIMA or AAPC certification (CCS, CPC, or CPC-H), two years in education or human resources, and three to five years in inpatient coding. Full-time Monday through Friday (7am–4pm) contract adjunct position with grant funding contingent on approval.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current certification by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) as one of the following: CCS, CPC, or CPC-H
- De-escalation training completed
- Two (2) years' experience in Education or Human Resources
- 3-5 years inpatient coding experience
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
- Ability to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels
- Close visual and acuity
- Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus
- Ability to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue
- Keen mental faculties/assessment and decision-making abilities
- Superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations
- Ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations
- Superior customer service skills and professional etiquette
- Proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word
- Ability to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages
- Ability to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area
- Ability to adjust working hours and availability as needed or as assigned (evenings/nights/weekends)
- Must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends
