Job Summary
Assist teachers in the classroom by identifying students needing reading and math interventions, delivering Early Reading and Math Intervention curriculum to targeted small groups, and reading to students in one-on-one or small group settings. Supervise students throughout the school site, including cafeteria, bus loading, field trips, and hallways, while performing minor first aid and ensuring student safety. Prepare assignments, organize student work binders, and compile data into the computer system. Provide clerical support by answering the multi-line telephone system, taking messages, and assisting with Parent Involvement activities. Maintain a safe environment by complying with all District policies, including the Crisis Plan, and report concerns to the administrator. Perform routine office functions and additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school
- one to two years related experience and/or training
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- current No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirements
- Ability to interact appropriately with teachers, staff, community members, and students
- Ability to solve conflict
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to contribute to building a positive team spirit
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing fluently in English
- Preference may be given to applicants fluent in English and Spanish
- Ability to present information and respond effectively to questions in one-on-one, small and large group situations to students and other school staff
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and governmental regulations
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and area
- Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra, geometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- General knowledge of computer usage
- Ability to use database software, e-mail, internet software, spreadsheets, teaching software, and word processing software
- Certificates determined by the District to be relevant to the job, including current NCLB requirements (paraprofessional certification)
- First Aid Certification
- Ability to regularly talk or hear
- Ability to frequently walk; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms
- Ability to often stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
