Job Summary

Educational Paraprofessional (Anticipated) assists the professional staff in meeting the needs of students eligible for special education. Works with the teacher as a team member in the educational and social development of students, assists in developing and maintaining a positive environment, acts as a positive social and emotional model, performs instructional activities under the teacher's direction, and monitors student progress. Provides input on student academic progress and needs, follows CAIU policies including FERPA confidentiality, assists with student personal care and transportation within the building or to off-site experiences (may include lifting up to 40 lbs), performs clerical and housekeeping duties, supports classroom materials and displays, adheres to schedules, and participates in trainings and meetings. Requires CPR, First Aid, AED certification or willingness to obtain, and training in Safe Crisis Management or equivalent, with ability to perform restraint procedures if required. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs, follow instructions, and have computer skills (Microsoft Office). Attends in-services and collaborates with internal and external staff to support students and the instructional program, under the supervision of a certified professional teacher.

Required Qualifications

  • Must possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Previous experience working with special needs population desired
  • Must be certified as a Qualified Paraprofessional, as required under Chapter 14, OR have the ability and willingness to become a Qualified Paraprofessional within the established timelines
  • Must be trained in CPR, First Aid, AED and fully certified to actively participate in Safe Crisis Management (SCM) or other restraint management system (as may be required by the program) and willing and fully able to utilize these procedures OR have the ability and willingness to become CPR, First Aid, and restraint system trained and be willing and fully able to administer these procedures
  • Must have the ability to lift/assist with lifting special needs children. Lifting may be up to 40 lbs without assistance and more with assistance
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions
  • Must have computer skills, including Microsoft Office
