Job Summary
Support professional staff in meeting the needs of students eligible for special education by working as a team member in their educational and social development. Assist with developing positive environments, monitoring instructional activities, and managing student behavior per established policies. Provide input on student progress, personal care needs, and off-site experiences while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to CAIU policies. Perform CPR, First Aid, and child restraint techniques as needed, and assist with lifting students up to 40 lbs. Monitor recess and lunch under supervision, prepare materials, and follow assigned schedules including attendance and punctuality. Foster positive relationships with internal and external staff while participating in team meetings and in-services as directed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Certified as a Qualified Paraprofessional, as required under Chapter 14
- Ability and willingness to become a Qualified Paraprofessional within the established timelines
- Training in CPR, First Aid, AED and full certification to actively participate in Safe Crisis Management (SCM) or other restraint management system
- Willingness and ability to become CPR, First Aid, and restraint system trained and be willing and fully able to administer these procedures
- Ability to lift/assist with lifting special needs children (up to 40 lbs without assistance)
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office
