Job Summary
Provide transliterating and interpreting services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing within New Hanover County Schools. Conduct annual training related to interpreting approved by the local education agency to maintain proficiency. Operate under a ten-month work year as a non-exempt employee at Grade 66 salary level, reporting to the Principal or Director of Special Education and Related Services.
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Educational Interpreting from an accredited program
- Two or more years of experience in an educational setting
- A score of Level 3 or higher on the Educational Interpreter Proficiency Assessment
- Licensure from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf
- Licensure from the National Association of the Deaf
- Cued Speech Transliterator Training, Evaluation and Certification Unit (TEC Unit)
- Annually complete 15 hours of training related to interpreting approved by local education agency
