Job Summary

Assist the teacher with non-instructional duties, guiding and supervising students while reinforcing classroom instruction as directed. Support students completing assignments, homework, and projects, and help with routine clerical tasks including report preparation and documentation. Observe and manage student behavior in the classroom, lunch areas, playground, and bus loading to ensure a safe learning environment. Provide support in the school office by handling front door security, phones, mailings, filing, attendance, and data entry. Work 5.5 hours daily for 181 days per year at Asbury Elementary, reporting to the Building Principal.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum two years post-secondary (48 credits), Associate Degree, or passing score on the Title I Paraprofessional Assessment test administered through I.U.5.
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work with elementary age students in a supportive and guiding capacity
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to push items of 50 lbs. such as pushing children in a wheelchair or moving/rearranging furniture
  • Ability to speak clearly and distinctly
  • Auditory acuity to be able to use telephone
  • Visual acuity to read correspondence and computer screen
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Must be courteous
  • Must be cooperative, congenial, service-oriented, and promote these qualities in the building
  • Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions
  • Ability to demonstrate good written and verbal skills
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, staff, and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to read, write, and do computations
  • Ability to work independently and make work-related decisions
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks and problem-solving
  • Ability to use correct grammar, sentence structure, and spelling
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels

  • Willingness to learn new software or equipment as needed
