Job Summary
Support and carry out instruction designed by general and special educators to meet individual student needs in a calm, non-reactionary manner. Work directly with students on IEP goals, monitor and document progress, and reinforce learning outlined by lead teachers. Assist educators with behavioral interventions, de-escalation strategies, and daily living activities including toileting and changing. Accompany students to snack, recess, lunch, and specialists while reporting academic and behavioral issues to teachers. Communicate clearly with various education professionals, including therapists and administration, and maintain strict confidentiality. Provide physical assistance as needed and follow behavior support plans using positive reinforcement.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to communicate clearly to various groups of education professionals including but not limited to Special Education Teachers, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists, and Administration
- Complete job tasks with sensitivity and confidentiality to students
- Ability to report data and work orally or in writing as needed
- Ability to restrain students during certain behavioral outbursts (CPI training)
- Ability to assist with toileting/changing tasks including full diapering
- Ability to stand, sit, bend, and lift as needed
- Ability to physically assist students with behavior issues or daily living activities
