Job Summary
Assist Kindergarten students in daily classroom activities, including physical tasks like dressing, using the lavatory, and moving between rooms. Hears students during recitation and reading while guiding them without teaching, and performs errands such as sharpening pencils and carrying lunch trays. Accompany students to the office or school nurse as needed and ensure their safety from self-harm or harm to others. Establish a supportive relationship with students, serve as a resource for personnel evaluations, and prepare to start and end instruction at scheduled times. Toileting, attending specials and recess, and providing transportation support may be included per the student's IEP. Perform all tasks as directed by the principal.
Required Qualifications
- An Associate's (or higher) degree
- taking and passing a formal assessment measuring one's knowledge of and ability to assist classroom teachers in reading, writing, and mathematics
- Successful completion of ParaPro Assessment
- Ability to physically support students
- Ability to physically respond to students in a variety of activities
- Ability to physically maintain a safe learning environment, including moving furniture in response to a crisis situation
Desired Qualifications
- Childcare or working with children in a daycare setting or children/young adults in a school setting or recreation setting is preferred
