Job Summary
Education Support Professional (Paraprofessional) in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program at Lincoln Center, South Saint Paul MN. Under supervision, the paraprofessional assists students with IEP goals, supports communication and mobility, and helps manage classroom activities. Responsibilities include aiding learners who are deafblind through sign language or visual supports, assisting the teacher with instruction and program management, adapting materials, conducting data collection and paperwork, assisting with behavior management and de-escalation, supervising students during arrivals, departures, and activities, facilitating activities under direction of teachers and related staff, ensuring student safety, collaborating with service personnel and families, and participating in training. Proficiency in American Sign Language is required, with prior experience in supporting deaf or hard-of-hearing students and a path to PCA certification. The role emphasizes teamwork, collaboration with parents and community, and adherence to district and state/federal guidelines. Qualifications also include the ability to work in high-stress situations, use assistive technology, and maintain communication skills throughout the school day.
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in American Sign Language
- Two years of study at an institution of higher education with 60 completed semester credits, an Associate's (or higher) degree, OR a passing score on the ParaPro assessment
- Ability to obtain PCA certification from the Department of Human Services
- Ability to work as an effective member of a team with staff, parents, and the community
- Willingness to complete training in Professional Crisis Management and implement restrictive procedures
- Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication
- Ability to work with assistive technology
- Basic computer and email skills
- Proficient in core educational subject areas
