Job Summary
Develop and teach educational programs, including toddler sessions, tours, school groups, camps, and events. Design curricula outlining goals, objectives, and conservation standards. Coordinate on-site and off-site events such as fairs, festivals, and fundraising activities. Lead programming in the absence of part-time staff and train educators, counselors, volunteers, and interns. Present Ambassador Animals while adhering to safety protocols and handling standards. Provide customer service to ensure positive experiences for all attendees. Cross-train across all program areas and support the hiring of part-time education staff.
Required Qualifications

- Must have an enthusiasm for wildlife and children
- Must have an appreciation for environmental education and a commitment to conservation and animal welfare
- Willingness to work with and around animals, including snakes and other reptiles, mammals, birds, amphibians, and invertebrates
- Must adhere to all safety policies and protocols and is proactive in reporting potential safety hazards
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Must provide proof of a TB test within the last 12 months or be willing to consent to obtaining one upon hire
- Bachelor's degree in education, biology, environmental studies or related field required
- An equivalent combination of related education and one year of experience are acceptable in lieu of a degree
- Experience working in an interpretive educational setting with children and adults required
- Experience creating educational age-appropriate content and/or curriculum required
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Valid CPR, First Aid, and AED certification, or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire required
- Must be able to repeatedly lift and/or push 50 pounds
- Standing/walking (approximately five hours per day)
- Sitting (approximately three hours per day)
- Viewing a computer screen for extended periods
- More than average talking
- Daily contact with a living collection of plants and animals in southwest Florida climate and exposure to a variety of plants and animals
- Subject to bites, stings and scrapes
- Ability to travel and drive a Zoo vehicle (car/SUV/cargo van) as needed
- Flexible work schedule, such as Tuesday – Saturday, weekends, evenings, and holidays
Desired Qualifications
- Multi-lingual a plus
- Experience in customer service and interacting with diverse groups of people; ages, abilities, cultures, and backgrounds preferred
- Experience working with or around animals, including reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds and invertebrates preferred
- National Association for Interpretation Certified Interpretive Guide is a plus
