Job Summary
Mentor Teacher engages in hands-on training and coaching of education staff at Head Start/Early Head Start centers, modeling and guiding developmentally appropriate practices, classroom management, environment planning, and curriculum implementation. Travels to multiple Head Start/Early Head Start centers within seven counties to train teachers and assistants, facilitates observations and discussions, provides guidance on time management, scheduling, and organization, supports integration of Conscious Discipline social/emotional curriculum, documents training, and collaborates with Education Team to mentor staff using TS Gold and program systems. Requires a Baccalaureate degree in early childhood education, a CDA, at least five years of preschool teaching experience, coaching ability, proficiency with computers, and the ability to obtain reliability and pass required screenings.
Required Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree in early childhood education
- Child development Associate credential (CDA)
- At least five years of experience teaching in a preschool, classroom based setting
- Experience working with adults in a coaching capacity and the ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team
- Proficient in the use of computers and related information technologies
- Ability to obtain and maintain status of reliability using the CLASS tool
- Knowledge of infant/toddler and preschool curriculum, developmentally appropriate practice, screening and assessment tools, and high quality early childhood education
- Obtain initial medical exam and TB assessment within 30 days of employment; complete medical exam and TB assessment every five years
- Pass background screen, child abuse/neglect screen, drug screen, and be subject to random drug testing
- Ability to keep accurate records
- Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws governing facilities for licensed day care facilities, including fire/safety and sanitation
- Ability to obtain knowledge of the purpose, goals and objectives of the Head Start Program
- Overtime provisions acknowledged per Fair Labor Standards Act
