Job Summary
Provide legal guidance to education advocates and participate in intakes over the phone and in person. Represent minors at Hearings such as Superintendent Hearings and/or Impartial Hearings while collaborating with staff to analyze and create legal strategies. Contribute to the creation of policies and strategies for the Long Island Advocacy Center, provide detailed reporting statistics on all cases and programs, and prepare trainings and materials for families and staff. This full-time or part-time role supports youth in Nassau County dealing with challenging behaviors and Code of Conduct violations at school. Required Qualifications
- JD degree
- admission to New York State Bar
Desired Qualifications
- Three (3) or more years experience
- Spanish language skills
- Experience working with diverse communities
- Experience working with children
- Knowledge of Education Law including IDEA
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on an interdisciplinary team
- Must be ready to grow and learn with Long Island Advocacy Center work
- Excellent written, analytical, oral, organizational and time management skills
