Job Summary
Caribbean Life Editor responsible for all content across weekly publication, website, email newsletters, social channels, podcasts, video, and events. Lead the team in creating compelling content, generating original story ideas, breaking news, and driving audience growth and repeat visitors. Collaborate with Schneps Media editorial leadership and citywide teams; oversee editorial operations, assign stories, edit for SEO, manage freelancers, and build print content using WordPress2Print. Proactively recruit staff and contributors, engage readers and partners, and coordinate with sales as needed. Relevant skills include strong writing/editing, WordPress, social-media savvy, deadline-driven multitasking, and knowledge of the Caribbean American community.
Required Qualifications
- Oversee day-to-day editorial operations
- Assign stories and deadlines to writers and contributors
- Proof stories in the website CMS, edit copy and headlines, ensure SEO best practices
- Oversee and assign freelancers to cover assignments, manage copy/photos, publish content online
- Build print publication in collaboration with production using WordPress2Print and Master Page Builder templates
- Procure copy for columns and pieces and ensure publication online and in print
- Procure images and collaborate with designers on editorial layouts
- Write stories when time permits
- Participate in meetings with editors to share ideas and coordinate syndication
- Recruit staff, interns, freelancers, and contributors
- Review site traffic, analytics, and audience engagement metrics
- Assist with content development around events and community initiatives
- Coordinate with the sales team and leadership when needed
Desired Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of the Caribbean American community in New York City
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Knowledge of Wordpress
- Knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, X and other social media platforms
- A multi-tasker who can work under strict deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
