Job Summary
Manage and support reporters through editorial brainstorming and execution, owning the company's vision and communicating it clearly to your teams. Experiment with AI to drive workflow efficiencies while editing stories and newsletter items in our Smart Brevity style. Write stories and newsletter items when needed, guiding expert reporters in a remote-first environment with consistent, constructive feedback. This role focuses on helping reporters deliver smarter, faster news on local events and folkways for our 39-city audience, with a specific emphasis on the Phoenix area. Candidates must operate with a startup mentality, possess sharp story framing skills, and be confident working remotely.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in a fast-paced newsroom
- Sharp story framing skills
- Strong conversational writing skills
- Confidence working in a remote-first environment
- Experience managing reporters at varying levels of seniority
- A belief in Smart Brevity
- The desire to help make your teams indispensable to local readers
- Preferably is located in the Phoenix area and/or has a deep familiarity with it
- A deep understanding of the greater Phoenix area and what topics are important to the people who live there
Desired Qualifications
- Experience editing daily newsletters is a plus
