ED Patient Access Representative (Part Time, Nights)

Job Summary
Conduct full patient registration processes in the Emergency Department and outpatient locations, including identifying patients, transcribing orders, verifying insurance, and managing work queues. Coordinate with clinical departments and revenue cycle teams to ensure clean claim submission and payment. Validate patient choices in the hospital information system, report potential identity theft, and enforce visitor policies while greeting and directing facility visitors. Answer internal and external calls, assist patients with MyChart and Welcome Kiosk technology, and obtain medical licenses for new providers. Monitor arrival processes for self-scheduled patients and contact prior authorization departments to decrease claim denials.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- General computer experience
- Ability to type fluently, accurately, and quickly
- Ability to sit or stand up to 8 hours per day
- Ability to sit or stand for 4 or more hours at a time
- Frequent use of hands/fingers for data entry
- Ability to walk frequently
- Ability to push up to 250 pounds in a wheelchair
- Ability to occasionally carry or lift up to 15 pounds
- Hearing as it relates to normal conversation
- Vision as it relates to general vision
- Ability to occasionally travel between campuses or regional locations
- Ability to cross train in all areas of location or region
- Ability to cross train in outpatient and Emergency Department areas
- Ability to cross train for all locations if any different nuances
- Ability to greet and direct patients and visitors for the entire facility
- Ability to provide friendly and courteous service to community and co-workers
- Ability to monitor and enforce visitor policy
- Ability to answer internal and external calls on main department/facility line
- Ability to dispense appropriate information and answer questions regarding the facility and its services
- Ability to promote and help increase usage of MyChart patient portal and patient self-service capabilities
- Ability to oversee and assist patients with Welcome Kiosk and On My Way technology
- Ability to contact the SLPG practice or Network Prior Authorization Department to obtain required insurance referrals and pre-certs
- Ability to obtain medical license Number, NPI and UPIN via appropriate website for all new provider entries
Desired Qualifications
- Certificate/Degree in health care related field
- Insurance background
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Previous medical administrative experience
- Health care related education courses
- Knowledge of health information system (epic)
