ED Patient Access Representative (Full Time, Nights)

Job Summary
Conduct the full scope of the registration process for patients in outpatient and Emergency Department locations, including correctly identifying patients, transcribing orders, verifying insurances, and processing point-of-service cash collections. Coordinate with clinical and revenue cycle departments to ensure clean claim submission and payment. Manage patient registration work queues, resolve edit-level errors, and contact provider offices for diagnosis and medical necessity information. Greet and direct patients, enforce visitor policies, answer facility calls, and promote MyChart and self-service capabilities. Oversee Welcome Kiosk and On My Way technology, monitor arrival processes, and obtain prior authorizations to decrease denials. Cross-train across all locations and regions, including outpatient and Emergency Department areas.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- General computer experience
- Ability to type fluently, accurately, and quickly
- Ability to sit or stand up to 8 hours per day
- Ability to frequently use hands/fingers for data entry
- Ability to frequently walk
- Ability to push up to 250 pounds in a wheelchair
- Ability to occasionally carry or lift up to 15 pounds
- Hearing as it relates to normal conversation
- Seeing as it relates to general vision
- Ability to occasionally travel between campuses or regional locations
Desired Qualifications
- Certificate/Degree in health care related field
- Insurance background
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Previous medical administrative experience
- Health care related education courses
- Knowledge of health information system (epic)
