ED Charge Nurse (Nights)

Job Summary
Coordinate and supervise unit activities, nursing care, and clinical activities in the Emergency Department during the 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. shift. Assist providers with procedures including conscious sedation, central line placement, and rapid sequence intubation while triaging, providing immediate care, and managing discharge planning. Proactively communicate staffing needs to managers and serve as the primary liaison between departments. Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement projects to encourage continuous improvement. Maintain regular attendance and support coworkers as needed, ensuring efficient staffing levels throughout the day as census changes. Serve as a sitter following designated education and training.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing
- Currently licensed to practice as a professional Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Missouri
- Knowledge regarding growth and development and assessing the physical and psychological needs of patients in the following stages of life: neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescents, adults, and geriatric
- Immediate experience of working in the Emergency Department for 1 year
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS or obtained within 6 months
- Current TNCC or obtained within 6 months
- Current PALS or obtained within 6 months
- Ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic
- Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 12 hours a day
- Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard
- Ability to continuously work under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines
- Ability to continuously utilize manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, sit and utilize eye/hand coordination and color definition
- Ability to occasionally reach above shoulder, regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 35 lbs
- Ability to occasionally walk on uneven surfaces
- Must maintain regular and predictable attendance
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) preferred
