Ecology & Conservation Director

Job Summary

Facilitate fun, safe, and engaging ecology and conservation programs for Scouts (ages 11-17) by instructing merit badges, mentoring youth, and presenting skills to groups of 5-20. Lead management for the Ecology, Conservation, and Sustainability areas while coordinating logistics, collecting materials, and entering advancement paperwork. Model the Scout Oath and Law during daily interactions, manage program setup and maintenance, and maintain a clean, safe work area. Participate in camp-wide activities including campfires and evening programs. Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record and adhere to SBR staff handbook policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum age: 18+
  • Leave No Trace Level II certification
  • Able to obtain National Camping School Ecology/Conservation certification
  • Willing to become a registered Scouting America member
  • Ability to stand, walk, and hike, up to 8 hours daily
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous environmental science, biology, ecology, conservation, and/or outdoor education
  • Previous leadership experience and/or Scouting/Summit experience
  • High-level emotional intelligence (such as self/social awareness and team dynamics)
  • Positive and cheerful attitude with a strong customer-service focus
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced environment with ability to learn/develop hard and soft skills
  • Ability to connect with individuals from diverse age groups, maturity, and backgrounds
