Job Summary
Provide advanced clinical expertise in Extra Corporeal Life Support (ECLS), Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD), and respiratory care to critically ill patients. Serve as the clinical and technical resource for ECMO equipment, working side-by-side with physicians, nurses, and respiratory care practitioners to deliver safe, evidence-based care. Participate in unit-based committees, mentor staff, and support research initiatives that advance the ECMO program. Requirements include an Associate's degree in respiratory therapy, graduation from a CoARC-approved program, completion of an ELSO-standard ECMO training, five years of critical intensive care experience, and active NBRC credentialing and licensure. BLS, PALS, ACLS, and NRP certifications are required or applicable based on unit needs. This role is part of Johns Hopkins Hospital Children's Center, a top-ranked pediatric hospital delivering family-centered care.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in respiratory therapy or a related field
- Graduate of a Registered Respiratory Therapy Program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC)
- Completion of a comprehensive ECMO training program that follows ELSO standards or acceptance into the ECMO Training program per entity specifications
- Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience in age-specific critical intensive care
- Registered Respiratory Therapist credential by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Current state-specific Respiratory Care Practitioner Licensure
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) and STABLE certification when working in NICU
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
