Job Summary

Conduct all echocardiograms including 2D, M-Mode, color Doppler, transesophageal, stress echo, and related examinations at a high technical level under supervisor direction. Perform patient preparation, assess NPO compliance, transport patients, place electrodes and blood pressure cuffs, and maintain continuous patient monitoring. Prepare echocardiographic worksheets for physician review, support Quality Assurance data collection, and manage supplies within budget. Prioritize STAT and routine orders while resolving conflicts and utilizing the chain of command. Maintain a safe environment, adhere to universal precautions, and participate in mandatory education programs. Requires RDCS or RCS certification, current ACLS, and experience with Philips equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers from American Heart Association
  • RDCS (ARDMS) or RCS (CCI)

Desired Qualifications

  • Graduate from an associate degree echo program and/or an accredited echo training program
  • High School Diploma and/or GED
  • Current American Heart Association ACLS
  • Experience with equipment including Philips ie33 and EPIQ, TEE probes (to include the sterilization process), and Epic
  • Typing and computer skills
  • 1 year hospital experience
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge in response to STAT calls
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize both STAT and routine orders
  • Demonstrates technical proficiency in all echo procedures
  • Can utilize critical thinking skills to assess the patient's condition to provide any additional views that will assist the cardiologist in the care/treatment
  • Manages supplies and forms within the budget
  • Participates in required and continuing educations
  • Attends or completes all mandatory facility and departmental education requirements
  • Responsible for patient preparation to include assessing compliance with NPO status, patient transport, placement of electrodes, placement of blood pressure cuff, presence of IV access if needed, secures the use of EKG monitoring equipment, remains with patient at all times, offers assistance under the director of an RN, maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
