Job Summary
Echocardiographer (cardiac sonographer) obtains high-quality ultrasound recordings of the heart for interpretation by cardiologists. Performs echocardiographic studies, completes quantitative worksheets, handles scheduling and clerical duties, maintains equipment, and communicates with patients, families, and physicians. Requires knowledge of ultrasound principles, cardiac abnormalities, and the ability to produce complete anatomic and functional information; must demonstrate strong interpersonal and documentation skills, work under pressure, and be available for on-call hours including evenings and weekends. Must be registered or registry-eligible with ARDMS RDCS or equivalent (RDCS certification within 12 months of hire/transfer or ARDMS-equivalent per credentials) and BLS. Previous echocardiography experience preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Registered or registry eligible with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers with a specialty
- If RDCS registry eligible, must receive RDCS certification within 12 months of hire or transfer
- Registered with Cardiovascular Credentialing International as Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) may be substituted for RDCS with the expectation of obtaining ARDMS registry within 12 months of hire or transfer
- BLS - Basic Life Support (includes RQI) - American Heart Association or American Red Cross
