Job Summary
Perform daily echocardiogram examinations, including transthoracic, transesophageal, and bedside studies for inpatient and outpatient patients. Operate and maintain diagnostic cardiac ultrasound equipment, conducting daily warm-ups, quality control checks, and restocking supplies. Position patients accurately, explain procedures to alleviate anxiety, and document anatomical, pathological, and physiological data for physician interpretation. Identify abnormal heart conditions such as wall defects or valve issues, query patients regarding medical history affecting imaging, and immediately report unusual findings to supervising physicians. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to perform follow-up studies or limited scans as directed by the attending provider.
Required Qualifications
- Must graduate from a cardiovascular technologist program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) through the Joint Review Committee in Cardiovascular Technology (JRC-CVT)
- Must be formally trained in cardiac sonography
- Proof of formal training
- Basic Life Support certification
- Current certification Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) as determined by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
- One (1) year of post-graduate clinical experience within the last two (2) years working as a Cardiovascular Technologist with a focus on performing echocardiographic studies
- Recent hands-on proficiency in conducting and documenting transthoracic echocardiograms
- Utilizing ultrasound equipment in accordance with current professional standards
- Supporting diagnostic evaluation of cardiac structure and function
- Competency in patient preparation
- Image acquisition
- Recognition of normal and abnormal findings
- Collaboration with interpreting physicians and multidisciplinary teams
