Job Summary
ECCAT/Supervisory Aide assists teachers in Kindergarten through Third Grade by supporting language, literacy, and numeracy development and other instructional needs. Responsibilities include assisting with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials; conducting learning games; supervising students; providing individualized and small-group instruction; supporting lessons aligned to district and school objectives; and supervising student transportation and other duties around the school. The role requires working with children with patience and effective communication, maintaining safety and confidentiality, and meeting training and certification requirements (ECCAT) as outlined in WV regulations. The position operates 8:30 am–3:30 pm, 200 days annually, with duties across classrooms, cafeteria, bus, hallways, and playground, under the supervision of the Principal.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent (WV Code §18A-2-5)
- Criminal background check ( WV Code §18-5-15c )
- Must pass state-developed aide competency test if the successful applicant has never held the classification of aide
- Must hold or be eligible to apply for ECCAT authorization (paraprofessional, temporary, or permanent)
- Willing to enroll and take courses to obtain the early childhood assistant teacher authorization upon employment
- Demonstrated competency as defined by WV Code §18A-4-8b; WV Code §18A-4-8e
