Job Summary
Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with severe disabilities, adapting lesson plans and materials to meet academic, behavioral, and social goals. Provide direct special education instruction using varied teaching methods while monitoring student progress and maintaining compliance records with State and Federal guidelines. Manage classroom discipline, deescalate inappropriate behaviors, and assist students with personal self-help tasks like eating and toileting. Communicate regularly with parents regarding educational progress and act as a case coordinator by consulting with community caregivers and school support professionals. Maintain accurate student records and adhere to North Carolina's Procedures Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Special Education from a Regionally Accredited College or University
- Must be licensed in Special Education/Adapted Curriculum (88092) or eligible for licensure
- Experience in teaching students with severe disabilities
- Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs
- Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
- Must have the auditory, visual, and physical skills necessary to manage students and classroom in a manner which assures reasonable safety to students under supervision
- Must pass a required health exam
- Must pass a criminal records check
- Must pass a drug test
