Job Summary
Originates and executes grain transactions across core New York and Pennsylvania markets with a primary focus on farmer origination and truck-based logistics. Manages an established portfolio of accounts while leveraging market insight and logistics execution to drive trading performance in the region. Responsibilities include originating corn, soybean, and wheat through direct engagement with farmers, executing physical grain trades, negotiating contracts (price, volume, quality, freight, and delivery terms), coordinating and optimizing truck logistics, analyzing local and regional market conditions to identify trading opportunities, expanding trading activity beyond core markets, and building strong relationships with farmers, carriers, and counterparties. Utilizes systems such as Excel, Agris, and Lattis to track positions, logistics, and performance. 2-5 years of experience in commodity merchandising or trading and a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Business, Finance, Economics or related major are required. The role emphasizes customer focus, collaboration, integrity, accountability, resilience, and continuous improvement as core competencies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required (preferably in Agriculture, Business, Finance Economics or related major)
- 2-5 years’ experience required in commodity merchandising, originations, or trading
- Direct experience working with farmers and managing origination contracts strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of grain markets, supply–demand dynamics, and basic merchandising concepts (including logistics)
- Experience coordinating truck logistics within agricultural supply chains
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with a commercial, sales-oriented mindset
- Passion for agriculture and developing a long-term career in grain trading on the East Coast
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
