Job Summary
Science writer to communicate NASA Earth science and Earth observation data to the public and stakeholders. Responsibilities include strategizing, developing, and writing feature stories, science briefs, and profiles of data users; curating and updating a monthly newsletter; coordinating interviews; attending meetings (travel <10%); supporting project scientists with web content, fact sheets, and presentation text; and providing copy-editing for scripts, infographics, event highlights, and conference materials. Requires a Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of science communications experience, ability to work independently within a distributed team, strong organizational skills, and the ability to tailor writing to diverse audiences. Must be a US citizen. The role offers a full-time schedule with the option to work onsite at NASA Goddard in Greenbelt, MD, or remotely. Applicant samples are required for consideration.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- minimum 2 years of experience developing science communications content for the mainstream public or news media
- Ability to work independently within a distributed team and meet deadlines
- Strong organizational skills to track multiple projects
- Ability to adapt writing style for different communications channels and audiences (e.g., data users)
- US Citizenship required
