Job Summary
Early Intervention Assistant provides front-line support to identify and refer children with special needs, conducts screenings (speech, developmental, behavioral), observes and supports individualized goals, and participates in staffings, parent conferences, and home visits. The role coordinates with Head Start and referral agencies to ensure timely services, participates in recruitment for children including those with special needs, maintains required records including PROMIS data, and collaborates with specialists and community providers. The position requires strong teamwork, bilingual English/Spanish desirable, and ability to communicate with families. It also requires compliance with background checks, TB testing, and certifications (First Aid, CPR, CPI), a valid driver’s license, and physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs; occasional driving for home visits is expected. The work is conducted at Head Start locations in Pearl River, LA, with on-site duties and community collaboration.
Required Qualifications
- High School Degree or GED with a minimum of 2 years professional level experience in an early childhood setting that includes services to children with special needs
- Preference for Associates degree in Early Childhood Education
- Must meet requirements per Federal Head Start Performance Standards and any local, state and/or agency policies and procedures
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills highly desirable
- Intermediate to advanced level computer skills, internet and e-mail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work as a team member collaborating with staff, families, and community resources
- Ability to work independently and maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
- Occasional driving for home visits sometimes in outlying areas
- Pass a criminal background check
- Pass a physical examination every three years
- Complete Tuberculosis (TB) test every three years
- Maintain a current First Aid, CPR, and CPI certification (training provided)
- Maintain a valid driver's license with a driving record in compliance with RCCDC's insurance carrier requirements
- Bend, stoop and kneel and lift up to 50 lbs
- Frequently kneel, stoop, bend, and sit on the floor to attend to children's needs
- Perform duties in an active environment with changes in climate and noise level
