Job Summary
Plan menus with parents and center staff to meet nutritional requirements, then order food within budgetary limitations. Prepare meals and snacks from the approved menu, serving them in a family style setting while eating with the children. Practice safety and sanitation during preparation and storage, and clean food preparation areas and equipment. Participate in classroom cooking experiences, staff meetings, and parent activities, including recruiting parents for menu planning and substitute cook roles. Maintain accurate records and reports, post weekly schedules, and observe health and safety rules. Supervise a Lunch Aide and perform related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States
- complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire
- Experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school
- one year of nutrition and food preparation experience
- Experience and training planning and preparing nutritious meals for the Head Start children
- assuring that one-third of the daily nutritional needs are met
- Knowledge of food preparation

- Physical condition adequate to meet the physical and emotional demands of assigned duties
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with people of varied social, cultural, and educational backgrounds
- Must be bondable
- Current, valid Arizona Driver's License
- Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Food Managers certification as required by the County Health Department
