Job Summary
Assist lead teachers in implementing daily classroom activities, lesson planning, and outings while administering meals, snacks, and maintaining a safe, clean environment. Monitor play, read, and engage children in designated areas, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times. Develop positive relationships with staff and parents, implement established child care policies and NYS OCFS regulations, and attend required meetings and training. Maintain certifications including First Aid and demonstrate YMCA leadership competencies to convey the organization's mission and core values.
Required Qualifications
- At least 16 years of age
- At least one year experience working with children under 13 years of age
- Experience preferably in an organized setting
- Maturity

- Sincere interest in working with people
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong communication skills
- Strong organization skills
- First Aid Certified
- Ability to obtain First Aid certification within 60 days of hire
- Ability to supervise children by sight and sound at all times
- Ability to move quickly to react to safety issues in the setting
- Ability to remain calm, objective and respectful in potentially stressful situations
- Ability to move around the room to assist children and supervise children with daily activities, social interaction, physical and emotional needs
- Ability to lift young children and objects (food baskets and supplies) up to 40 lbs
- Ability to work in all elements (i.e. outside in all weather)
- Ability to move from program site to branch or site to site
- Ability to enter all YMCA environments including, program space, buses, schools, pools, and program area
Desired Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
