Job Summary
Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop Individual Education Plans through the ARD Committee process. Implement instructional and therapeutic programs while conducting ongoing assessments of student learning styles and achievement. Manage student behavior, administer discipline, and provide personal care as outlined in IEPs. Create a conducive classroom environment, select instructional media, and supervise teacher aides. Establish open communication channels with parents and colleagues, compile required reports, and comply with federal and district regulations. Participate in staff development activities and faculty meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignment
- Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
- Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
- Knowledge of how to adapt curriculum and instruction for special needs
- Effective communication skills
- Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
