Job Summary

Provide classroom coverage across all therapeutic preschool classrooms, quickly adapting to unique routines and needs to maintain continuity of care. Build relationships with young children and the team to support play, safety, and co-regulation while implementing trauma-informed interventions for challenging behaviors. Assist educational therapists during group sessions, help track child progress, and communicate updates to caregivers and treatment teams. Prepare and maintain classroom environments, ensure student safety, and participate in case staffing, curriculum planning, and discharge processes. Work in both indoor and outdoor settings with frequent movement between rooms, lifting up to 45 pounds, and adapting to changing daily assignments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or child development
  • At least three years' experience
  • Experience in early childhood education
  • Licensing Standards for Day Care Centers
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Commitment to trauma-informed interventions with children
  • Strong self-care and stress management skills
  • Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, including sitting on the floor, transitioning to and from the floor, assisting children, and lifting up to 45 pounds
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, highly collaborative, and mutually respectful environment
  • Personal characteristics and temperament suitable for working with children with challenging behaviors and unique needs
  • Ability to adapt to changing assignments and priorities throughout the day
  • Ability to quickly establish rapport with children in multiple classrooms
  • Ability to successfully complete required criminal background screenings, Department of Education and Department of Social Services required background checking, child abuse and neglect registry checks, and pre-employment drug testing
  • Ability to move around rooms or within a space with sustained periods of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, sitting on the floor, and actively engaging in play and therapeutic activities with young children
  • Ability to frequently lift, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving up to 45 pounds
  • Close and distance vision, color recognition, peripheral awareness, and focus adjustment

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in related field (social work, counseling) and credits hours in early childhood education
  • Experience serving high needs populations
  • Experience working with children with challenging behaviors
