Early Childhood Education Consultant, Bureau of Childcare

The Early Childhood Education Consultant will monitor and assess childcare programs across New York City to ensure compliance with local health code, New York State social service regulations, and licensing requirements. Duties include evaluating programs (center-based, residential, school-based, and after-school) for regulatory compliance, providing consultation and technical assistance on educational programming and classroom management, serving as a resource on current trends in Early Childhood Education, issuing notices of violation or license/permit decisions for imminent health hazards, examining records, investigating complaints, and representing the Bureau at professional events. Preferred skills include Professional Certification in Early Childhood Education, strong communication, analytical and observational abilities, the ability to deduce potential impacts of conditions or assess risk, writing detailed observations, and computer skills including mobile devices. The role requires travel across the five boroughs via mass transit or personal vehicle, with inspection equipment carried onsite; a portion of work may be performed from home up to two days per week depending on position.
