Job Summary
Provide individualized care and learning support to a child with diverse needs in a licensed childcare setting, implementing developmentally appropriate strategies to promote the child’s emotional, physical, cognitive, and social well-being while ensuring safety, dignity and inclusion. Collaborate with classroom educators and families, support transitions and routines, use responsive communication and emotion-regulation strategies, adhere to licensing and organizational policies, observe and report on the child’s progress, participate in planning and consultations with specialists, and promote inclusive, trauma-informed practices aligned with Indigenous ways of knowing where appropriate.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of Early Childhood Educator Diploma (equivalent of ECE Basic Level Certificate & ECE Post Basic (Infant/Toddler Specialization) & ECE Post Basic (Special needs Specialization)).
- BC ECE Certificate current and valid.
- Membership with Early Childhood Educators of BC, or willingness to become a member.
- Valid Standard First Aid CPR C and Emergency Child Care CPR.
- Minimum 2 years of related work experience, ideally in a multi-ethnic and socially diverse community.
- Knowledge of community care licensing requirements.
- Knowledge of the British Columbia Early Learning Framework and the Early Years Service Framework.
- Commitment to ECEBC Code of Ethics.
- Ability to support families in crisis and refer appropriately; knowledge of community resources.
- Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Possession of a Class 5 drivers’ license; Class 4 an asset.
- Criminal record check and Driver’s Abstract as required.
- Willingness to obtain Post Basic Certificates (Special Needs Specialization and/or Infant/Toddler Specialization) where applicable.
