Job Summary
Entry-level field services technician opportunity supporting electrical testing and energization for power systems, working under supervision to assist with basic inspection, testing, and troubleshooting activities across substations, industrial facilities, and related sites. Develops core skills in handling testing instruments, data collection, documentation, safety practices, and coordination with field staff while contributing to environmental stewardship and quality assurance. Requires willingness to travel up to 80% and to work outdoors, with strong attention to safety and the ability to follow established procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Some experience in electrical testing or related job capacity
- Some experience or demonstrated interest in field service work, in medium and high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing
- Completion of electrical circuits analysis series, or other courses with AC power system theory
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Willingness to participate in required safety and operational training sessions
- The ideal candidate demonstrates a willingness to learn, good communication skills, and developing problem solving abilities
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, and smell
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of environmental and weather conditions for extended durations
- Effective self-leadership with the ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies
- Ability to work independently under supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining accuracy
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Willingness and physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds individually, and up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, basic color differentiation, and the ability to adjust focus
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Must be willing to travel (up to 80%)
