Job Summary
Entry-level geotechnical engineer supports design, development, and construction of infrastructure in Birmingham, AL. Under general supervision, assists with data collection and analysis from site investigations, soil/rock samples, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, and other geotechnical data. Performs basic professional geotechnical tasks including subsoil investigations, settlement analysis, soil erosion, earth pressures, slope stability, and foundation engineering for commercial, industrial, building, environmental, infrastructure, and transportation projects. Generates clear documentation, maintains quality control, and ensures safety and adherence to design standards. Additional responsibilities include using electronic systems to document work, comply with guidelines, complete training, and support project-specific requirements. Strong emphasis on collaboration, analytical skills, and adherence to WSP’s code of conduct.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, or closely related discipline
- 0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience
- Familiarity with design/build concepts and geotechnical engineering principles
- Proficiency in technical writing, documentation, and reporting
- Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS)
- Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team
- Occasional travel may be required
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to safety and compliance with company policies
