Job Summary
Conduct electrical and instrumentation support for Plains assets by performing installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of designated equipment and systems across tank farms, pump stations, and facilities. Execute scheduled and non-scheduled tasks including preventative maintenance on control devices, generators, pumps, and valves while maintaining safety and process monitoring systems. Troubleshoot abnormal conditions, resolve equipment failures, and respond to emergency situations and spill response as required. Communicate problem areas and recommendations to appropriate levels while ensuring regulatory and operational integrity policies are followed. Perform routine operations, assist in the Preventive Maintenance program, and participate in construction projects, turnaround planning, and special assignments. Work independently with minimal supervision in open environments with extremes of heat and cold, often in proximity to high voltage and chemicals.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant work experience at the prior level
- Ability to work in a team-based work environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to read and comprehend electrical drawings, pipeline maps, other technical drawings / schematics, and technical operational manuals
- Ability to perform load studies and related calculations
- Knowledge of electrical code requirements and specifications associated with pipeline / facility operations
- Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and provincial government regulations
- Proficiency in safe work practices and procedures
- Ability to identify site-specific PPE
- Ability to perform confined space entry
- Ability to report incidents
- Ability to describe site specific hazards (e.g., asbestos, benzene, silica, nitrogen, heat and cold stress, noise, radiation)
- Ability to safely handle materials at the work site
- Basic computer skills: Excel, Microsoft Office, Word
- Outstanding safety record
- Ability to successfully complete company Haz-Mat training
- Required operator qualifications to perform pipeline mechanical operations
- Mandatory safety training
- Valid drivers' license with a clean abstract in the job posting province
- No concerns operating vehicle with driver monitoring system
- Permanent residency within a 100KM Radius of Sherwood Park facility
- Cleared criminal history (background)
- Satisfactory reference checks
- Compliance with the Company's drug and alcohol policy
- Ability to complete pre-employment screening
Desired Qualifications
- Dual tickets in Electrical and Instrumentation technology
- Experience or training with medium/high voltage electrical systems and switchgear
- Training in all types of protective devices associated with pipeline operations, including mechanical and solid-state protective relays, breakers, motor windings, RTDs, temperature transmitters and vibration sensors/recorders, and associated devices
- PLC programming experience
