Job Summary
Provide instruction to students under the direction of a teacher, working with individuals or small groups on reading, writing, and mathematics. Assist in preparing instructional materials, administering objective testing instruments, and maintaining classroom order and equipment inventory. Supervise students throughout the school day, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty, while making teachers aware of special needs. Participate in staff development training, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned. Requires a valid Texas education aide certificate, para professional certification or associate's degree, and some experience working with children.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Para Professional Certification or Associate's degree, two years of study at an institution of higher learning or have met formal academic assessment as required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
- Valid Texas education aide certificate
- Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Some experience working with children
- Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping
- Moderate walking
- Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
- Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise
- Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
