DUIP Counselor/Instructor

Job Summary

Facilitate group and education sessions, conduct client interviews, and manage assigned caseloads in accordance with DUIP philosophy and State/County guidelines. Perform trauma-informed counseling strategies including grounding techniques, cognitive behavior tools, and stress management to manage anxiety and hyperarousal. Develop collaborative treatment and recovery plans emphasizing client goals while maintaining clear role boundaries. Identify client strengths and resilience, ensuring physical and emotional safety. Make referrals to the clinical team when client needs exceed scope of practice. Attend monthly meetings to provide case management services. Candidate must reside in California within commutable distance of SDSU and hold AOD certification or be in good standing with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification by an AOD organization
  • Good standing as an Associate / Intern through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences
  • Two-years experience providing counseling services in the field of alcohol and/or mental health
  • Reside in California
  • Live within a commutable distance from SDSU at time of hire
  • Satisfactory clearance based on background check results (including a criminal record check)
