Job Summary
Diesel and Equipment Mechanic II responsible for maintenance of the D&SNG fleet including diesel locomotives, heavy equipment, and on-track vehicles; performs routine maintenance, inspections, repairs, and diagnostics, including electrical and hydraulic systems, with emphasis on multi-month repairs and overhauls. Requires strong knowledge of diesel/gas engines, ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics, hands-on skills in welding or machining a plus, and capability to work both independently and in a team in a railroad shop environment; based primarily in Durango with semi-regular work at other locations, and duties include documenting work per FRA/OSHA/company requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal English
- Previous diesel and gas engine experience
- Ability to troubleshoot, multi-task and think-on-your-feet
- Ability to use all variety of shop tools
- Understanding of electrical systems
- Understanding of hydraulic systems
- Welding, machining, or other trade skills a plus
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be able to pass D&SNG pre-employment and ongoing physical capabilities exams
- Must have ability to operate heavy equipment such as loader, forklift, and tractor
