Job Summary
Diesel and Equipment Mechanic II responsible for maintenance of the D&SNG fleet, including diesel locomotives, heavy equipment, and on-track MOW vehicles. Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs; carry out troubleshooting and diagnostics; read blueprints and electrical schematics; contribute to multi-month repairs and overhauls; collaborate in a team setting and communicate effectively; work primarily from the Durango yard with semi-regular travel to other railroad locations; welding/machining and understanding of electrical/hydraulic systems are a plus; must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to pass pre-employment and ongoing physical capabilities exams; adhere to FRA, OSHA, and company procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal English
- Previous diesel and gas engine experience
- Ability to troubleshoot, multi-task and think-on-your-feet
- Ability to use shop tools
- Understanding of electrical systems
- Understanding of hydraulic systems
- Welding, machining, or other trade skills a plus
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be able to pass pre-employment physical capabilities exams
- Must be able to operate heavy equipment such as loader, forklift, and tractor
