Job Summary
Dry Shipping Operator at Trafigura focused on efficient, compliant voyage operations for large dry cargo vessels. Responsible for voyage planning to meet international regulations, optimizing bunker procurement and consumption, coordinating stowage and cargo handling, arranging agency appointments and issuing voyage orders, monitoring vessel performance (speed, consumption), coordinating weather routing and performance optimization, managing hold/tank cleaning, handling vessel questionnaires and LOIs, maintaining paperwork and software systems, and collaborating with internal/external counterparties to ensure smooth pre- and post-fixture activities, with strong emphasis on regulatory compliance, data-driven performance analysis, and continuous improvement in shipping operations.
Required Qualifications
- 2-5 years’ office experience for Seafarers or 4-6 years’ office experience for Non Seafarers
- Supramax/Panamax/Capesize vessel experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of Charter Party terms (NYPE, Gencon, Baltime, etc.)
- Fluent spoken and written English
- IT system literacy (MS Office, Voyage management systems – IMOS VESON literacy, Optimization platforms)
- Relevant maritime qualification/degree (e.g., nautical studies, maritime operations, or equivalent)
- Commercial & Financial Acumen: Charter party terms and conditions (Time Charter, Voyage Charter) BIMCO standard forms and clauses
- Laytime and demurrage calculations
- P&L understanding and variance analysis
- Operational Expertise: Cargo operations – Preparation for Loading, discharge. Bunker operations - Planning, quality specifications, sampling procedures.
- Analytical & Reporting Skills: Data analysis and visualization - Dashboards, KPIs, trend analysis
- Report writing and presentation skills
- Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Automation tool development (desirable)
- Understanding of AI/ML applications in shipping operations (desirable)
- Continuous improvement initiatives
