Job Summary
Operate a potato-dehydrating drum by maintaining consistent mash flow, adjusting feed augers and rollers, and managing clean versus dirty mash to minimize defects. Monitor product quality, remove bullhides immediately, and notify the Flake Operator of any grade issues or equipment problems. Perform sanitation duties including cleaning tool dip tanks, flake breaker covers, and knives, while adhering to all safety regulations and good manufacturing practices. Work a rotating 28-day shift schedule covering AM, swing, and grave shifts, with differentials for evening and overnight hours. Stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly in a 24/7 manufacturing environment exposed to heat, dust, and noise.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to stand, bend, or move repetitively for up to 12 hours
- Must be able to shovel mash weighing 35-50 lbs on a regular basis
- Must be able to lift on a regular basis up to 50 lbs without assistance, and 100 lbs with assistance
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
- Must be able to tolerate dust or chemicals
- Must not be affected by moving equipment and machinery
- Must be able to closely follow operational instructions
- Education must be of such level as to allow for the accurate reading, writing, calculation, and communication of the required materials and instructions to complete the job responsibilities of the Drum Operator
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with the potato dehydration process helpful
- Previous experience working around processing equipment preferred
- Knowledge of chlorine use and cleaning/sanitizing chemicals
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
