Job Summary
Drive company vehicles to outdoor job sites to perform underground utility locates and drop bury tickets for telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer systems. Utilize locating equipment to accurately mark facilities, then trench or bore cable lines (typically 6-8 inches deep) while maintaining records and photographing each task for billing. Operate digging equipment or hand tools to complete driveway and sidewalk bores, adhering to all safety procedures and interacting with customers, contractors, and supervisors to coordinate work. Use smartphone software to track time and identify completed tickets. This role requires walking long distances, lifting up to 75 lbs, and working in various weather conditions with minimal direct supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods of time
- Computer proficiency and the ability to use and interpret various electronic locating equipment
- Available to work overtime, including weekends, as needed
- Ability to pass a drug screen (this is a safety-sensitive position)
- Valid driver's license and a safe driving record
- Ability to walk long distances, bend, kneel, and lift frequently (up to 75 lbs.)
- Ability to work in a confined space
- Ability to do manual labor utilizing hand tools to dig or bore 6-8 inches in depth for up to 100 feet
- Ability to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities
- Ability to read, understand, and reference locate tickets, as well as maps and prints
- Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and property owners
- Ability to perform efficiently with minimal direct supervision
Desired Qualifications
- Previous utility industry/locating/drop bury experience or other outdoor work experience
- Experience with operating digging equipment (vibratory plows or boring machines)
- Experience with operating fiber fusion splicers
