Job Summary

Drive to assigned outdoor job sites to perform utility locates and drop bury tickets, utilizing equipment to mark telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer systems before trenching or boring cable lines 6-8 inches deep. Operate digging machinery or use hand tools to complete driveway and sidewalk bores while maintaining accurate records, photographing each locate and drop bury, and verifying customer compliance. Coordinate daily with utility representatives, contractors, and property owners to ensure work proceeds safely and efficiently. This role requires a driver's license, ability to work outdoors in various conditions, and proficiency with electronic locating equipment. USIC performs over 84 million locates annually as America's leader in underground utility damage prevention.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods of time
  • Computer proficiency and the ability to use and interpret various electronic locating equipment
  • Available to work overtime, including weekends, as needed
  • Ability to pass a drug screen (this is a safety-sensitive position)
  • Valid driver's license and a safe driving record
  • Ability to walk long distances, bend, kneel, and lift frequently (up to 75 lbs.)
  • Ability to work in a confined space
  • Ability to do manual labor utilizing hand tools to dig or bore 6-8 inches in depth for up to 100 feet
  • Ability to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities
  • Ability to read, understand, and reference locate tickets, as well as maps and prints
  • Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and property owners
  • Ability to perform efficiently with minimal direct supervision

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous utility industry/locating/drop bury experience or other outdoor work experience is beneficial but not required
  • Experience with operating digging equipment (vibratory plows or boring machines) is preferred but not required
  • Experience with operating fiber fusion splicers is highly preferred but not required
