Job Summary
Drive company vehicle to outdoor job sites to locate and mark underground telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer utilities. Utilize locating equipment and hand tools to trench cable lines, typically 6-8 inches deep, while operating digging equipment or boring machines as needed. Maintain accurate records, photograph each locate and drop bury for billing, and interact with customers, contractors, and teammates to coordinate work safely. Adhere to all OSHA and company safety procedures, including daily equipment checks and compliance documentation. This role supports USIC's mission to protect critical infrastructure assets across the nation, offering full training, a 401(k) match, and a career path program.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods of time
- Computer proficiency and the ability to use and interpret various electronic locating equipment
- Available to work overtime, including weekends, as needed
- Ability to pass a drug screen (this is a safety-sensitive position)
- Valid driver's license and a safe driving record
- Ability to walk long distances, bend, kneel, and lift frequently (up to 75 lbs.)
- Ability to work in a confined space
- Ability to do manual labor utilizing hand tools to dig or bore 6-8 inches in depth for up to 100 feet
- Ability to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities
- Ability to read, understand, and reference locate tickets, as well as maps and prints
- Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and property owners
- Ability to perform efficiently with minimal direct supervision
Desired Qualifications
- Previous utility industry/locating/drop bury experience or other outdoor work experience
- Experience with operating digging equipment (vibratory plows or boring machines)
- Experience with operating fiber fusion splicers
