Job Summary
Drive company vehicles to outdoor job sites to perform utility locates and drop bury tickets for telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer systems. Utilize locating equipment and hand tools to accurately mark underground facilities, trench cable lines typically 6-8 inches deep, and complete driveway and sidewalk bores. Operate digging equipment or boring machines to bore lines while maintaining accurate records, documentation, and photographic evidence for billing and customer compliance. Interact with customers, contractors, and property owners to coordinate work and ensure safety procedures are followed. Requires a valid driver's license, ability to work outdoors in various conditions, and availability for overtime including weekends.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods of time
- Computer proficiency and the ability to use and interpret various electronic locating equipment
- Available to work overtime, including weekends, as needed
- Ability to pass a drug screen
- Valid driver's license and a safe driving record
- Ability to walk long distances, bend, kneel, and lift frequently (up to 75 lbs.)
- Ability to do manual labor utilizing hand tools to dig or bore 6-8 inches in depth for up to 100 feet
- Ability to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities
- Ability to read, understand, and reference locate tickets, as well as maps and prints
- Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and property owners
- Ability to perform efficiently with minimal direct supervision
Desired Qualifications
- Previous utility industry/locating/drop bury experience or other outdoor work experience
- Experience with operating digging equipment (vibratory plows or boring machines)
- Experience with operating fiber fusion splicers
